Special Activities
Fall Celebration: Most preschoolers have difficulty distinguishing between what is real and what is fantasy. Some things at this time of year can be very frightening to children. "We will promote things that God has made-things that are real." Example: pumpkins (even some with happy faces), spiders, bats, and black cats. We do NOT discuss such things as witches, ghosts and goblins. In our effort to make sure no one is offended by our activity, we have chosen not to celebrate "Halloween". The Church hosts a fun filled Fall Festival during this time.
Thanksgiving Feast: Older Preschool children learn about our Thanksgiving holiday and traditions. Classes prepare Pilgrim and Native American costumes to wear during our school-wide feast. The children prepare cornbread, fruit salad, and pumpkin cookies to go with a delicious turkey.
Christmas: Transitional Kindergarten presents "The Nativity" during our "Happy Birthday Jesus!" Party. All the preschoolers join together to sing carols, have snack and move to their rooms to complete the festivities.
Valentine's Day: Sharing love is the whole point of our school. On this special day, simple snacks and age-appropriate valentine-theme games are enjoyed by all.
Texas Week: This is a special week for our little Texans! Planned to coincide with Texas Independence Day, this is a very busy week. Highlights include dressing as "cowboys/girls", pony rides and photos, a rodeo (pretend), and special snacks all week.
Easter: Children love Easter egg hunts and The Heights Baptist Church throws a huge one every year at Breckinridge Park that we participate in. Classroom Easter activities focus on spring and new life.
Week of the Young Child: The National Association for the Education of Young Children sponsors a celebration each spring. Each year is a different theme. Celebrations have included a circus, rodeo and summer. During the week, the entire school enjoys special activities and snacks. Our music teacher also directs our Older Preschoolers in a "Spring" performance for families to come and see!
Mother's Day Tea: Children prepare invitations, decorations, & gifts to honor their mothers at Tea. Each 3, 4, & 5 year old invites their Mom for this festivity. There have been grandmas, aunts, nannies, sisters and dads accompanying children. Truly a CDC tradition that is not to be missed.
Donuts with Dad: During the month of October, children will come to school dressed like their fathers and will honor them with breakfast and a gift in their classroom.
